Winter Wonderland

The holidays are over! In our family (and probably everyone's family)  it is a crazy, busy time of the year. I enjoy seeing family and stuffing my face full of food but as soon as it is over I want no sight of it till next year! All of our Christmas stuff gets packed up on Dec 27 and with the tree down and the mantel cleaned off it starts to look pretty bare in the house! It is in need of some winter decor that shows no signs of the holidays, here is a few inspirational winter wonderland decor ideas.

Nothing says winter wonderland like silvers, whites, fire, and cozy blankets!

All In One Year

Has it really been that long since I last posted! I can't believe how fast this past year has gone, a lot sure has happened. Too much stuff to fill you all in on, but I thought maybe I would narrow it down to my top 5.

5. It was a very stressful time last April to August. Selling the house was a pain, buying a new house and moving.....not fun! It is a lot of work going through that process and I hope I don't have to do that again for a long time. But I am very happy we SOLD the townhouse.

Bye Bye!

4. During our first winter in the house we had a lot of rain and I think that we must be cursed with water problems, we had a leak in our foundation into the basement! This was due to poor grading in the backyard, all of the water ran against the house for who knows how long. This little hiccup lead us to our fist renovation of the new house....Taking out the deck, re-grading the backyard and laying a patio (it's still a working progress). I did a really bad job at taking pictures of the house when we moved in so I don't have to many before pictures.

There was two levels an upper deck and a lower deck. The lower deck had a huge ugly, ugly bar, which is pretty much taken down in this photo same with half the deck.

It's a working progress! We do have stairs on the deck now with a temporary railing. We are still building the gardens around the patio but that will be a project for the spring now.

3. Last June we found out I was pregnant! We were trying for awhile and finally it happened! J was super excited he was going to be a big brother!

2. My little man started school last September! He is growing so fast he is no longer my baby.

1. My little princess was born!!! I had a baby girl on February 13, 2013...6lbs 2oz 19 inches, tiny compared to J.. 9lbs 2 oz 21 inches.

It is a different experience having a girl! She is a lot different than J. She is a big mamma suck and LOVES her big brother! She can pick him out from across the room.

Well that is my top 5 for the year! My little princess has kept me pretty busy. Our new house has a lot of projects ahead and I can't wait to share them!

Get Inspired- Painted Kitchen Cabinets

An excellent way to improve your kitchens appearance without spending a fortune on replacing the cabinets is to paint them! Here are some great inspiring painted kitchen cabinets...

I love the idea of adding the colour to the cabinets in a pantry closet.
A popular thing in kitchens is to have the island a different colour than the perimeter cabinets. In this kitchen they did that but painted the island and the oven vent a light green. It really adds a pop of colour to the space and breaks up all of the white.
I love this colour! The charcoal gray looks so good on kitchen cabinets....I think I want to do that in my next house.
Another common thing you see in kitchens is to paint the top cabinets one colour and the bottom in another colour.... In this kitchen they did white ontop and a nice vibrant red on the bottom. Only doing the bottom cabinets is a great way to add some interest to your cabinets with out going over board with red.
I love how this kitchen has the painted cabinets on the perimeter and they left the island in a nice wood finish instead of painting it the same or different colour.
All a kitchen needs sometimes is a new paint colour and add some new knobs and you have a whole new looking kitchen!

Finishing the House Tour

Sorry it has been one busy month and I haven't had much time to blog. It's not easy living in a house that constantly needs to look like it is staged! Our house is still for sale but we have had a lot of people come and look so hopefully an offer will come soon!

I thought I would finish off the house tour from last time. (Kitchen, Bathroom, House tour)

Here are the before pictures of the basement powder room.

After ....You can read all about the bathroom Reno here

This next picture is of the office and I didn't have a before of J's room but it pretty much looks the same. We didn't really change anything in the office just filled it with furniture.

The basement before....

And there you have it! The whole house....Now it is just a waiting game...and then on to the next house and another list of Reno's.

House Tour

I haven't really shown many pictures of my living room to you before, mostly because it was complete before I started blogging. Since I am going to be moving I will just give you a full house tour so you can see the rooms that you haven't seen before. Previous posts Kitchen, Main Bathroom

Living room before...

The only thing we changed in the living room was the carpet for hardwood and I painted of course. The carpet was very gross when we moved in and I am sooooo glad we took it out! I wouldn't have wanted J crawling around on it.

Next I will show you the master bedroom before....

The one thing I didn't like about the house was that everything from floor to ceiling was painted the same colour. There wasn't much to change in the master bedroom except that we refinished the parquet floor in all the rooms upstairs and I painted the walls and painted the trim white.

I will leave it at these two rooms for now...Next time I will show you a couple more rooms.
